Northern Alps ski resorts

Montchavin, La Grande Terche, La Tania... You may not be familiar with these names, but today they are among the many resorts in the Northern Alps, one of the strongholds par excellence of the high mountain, with over 200 ski areas. It encompasses Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère and Drôme, and extends as far as Switzerland and Italy.

The great French ski resorts of La Plagne, Les 3 Vallées and l'Alpe d'Huez were founded in the early 20th century, and have become a meeting point for the vast majority of Europeans, thanks to the beauty of their landscapes and the ski areas they offer. Subsequently, a host of other resorts developed.

The most coveted area today is the 3 vallées, which is considered to be the largest ski area in the world, bringing together Méribel (1600, Altiport, Les Allues, Mottaret, Centre), Courchevel 1650, Les Menuires, La Tania, Val Thorens, Brides-les bains and St Martin de Belleville with over 400 km2 of pistes.

The departments of Savoie and Haute Savoie are home to a large number of high-altitude resorts offering exceptional, long-lasting snow cover. These two departments also have a multitude of small, wooded resorts that are very charming and peaceful. Isère is also full of varied, accessible resorts. Family resorts such as Vaujany and l'Alpe d'Huez are located not far from international resorts such as Les 2 Alpes.
