A flagship ski destination in the Massif Central, the Mont-Dore ski resort has a ski area located on the northern slopes of the Puy de Sancy. Its orientation gives it excellent snow quality. The resort has a 40-kilometre Nordic area, as well as 31 ski runs of varying levels. What's more, the resort has been awarded the Famille Plus Montagne label. The resort of Mont Dore
In the Massif Central, in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park, the ski resort of Le Mont-Dore nestles at the headwaters of the Dordogne and at the foot of the Puy de Sancy. It's a popular ski destination thanks to the purity of its air, the benefits of its thermal waters and the quality of its ski area. The ski resort, which sits on the northern slopes of the Sancy, the highest peak in the Massif Central at 1886 metres, was one of the first to be classified as a winter sports resort. Today, it is a family resort, combining sport and entertainment in a mountain setting where nature reigns supreme. Skiing in Mont Dore
Ranging in altitude from 1,200 to 1,840 metres, the Grand Sancy ski area of Le Mont Dore offers 41 kilometres of pistes for all levels, served by around fifteen ski lifts. The playing field has been extended to 84 kilometres thanks to the link with the Super Besse ski area. Skiers can enjoy a snowpark, boarder cross, slalom for beginners, a speed riding zone and a fun area with toboggan runs adapted for children... Nordic skiers will find 29 kilometres of pistes between 1150 and 1450 metres altitude, in the Mont Dore - Le Capucin sector. Freeride enthusiasts can also enjoy a variety of itineraries.
Activities in Mont Dore
The pleasures of skiing and snowboarding can take many forms at Le Mont Dore: you'll have the chance to try speedriding, a board sport somewhere between paragliding and parachuting, which invites you to ski down dedicated slopes just a few centimetres above the ground. You can discover snowscooting on the slopes of Le Mont-Dore, and the ski resort also offers a variety of freeride itineraries. Finally, in the Val d'Enfer cirque, the Ours and Robic waterfalls are ideal for an introduction to ice climbing. To discover, at your own pace, unspoilt nature in the heart of the great outdoors, opt for a snowshoe hike, or try the unique experience of a dog-sleigh ride. Finally, for children, the P'tits Gaulois village offers foam modules for sliding and having fun in complete safety, and two toboggan runs have been set up at the foot of the slopes at Le Mont-Dore resort, for under 6s and over 6s.
