“Classicaval”, the Classical Music Festival in Val d’Isère

Val d’Isère’s reputation as a world-class resort and one of France’s top ski destinations is well-earned as the ski resort has something for everyone. Skiers, snowboarders, even telemarkers ... beginners, intermediate or advanced ... from Olympic and World Cup runs to fantastic lift-served off-piste skiing and several green runs high on the mountain. Val d’Isère is linked with neighbouring Tignes and the combined ski area known as the Espace Killy is huge with close to 200 miles of runs. For families, there’s a children’s village for ages 18 months to 13 years, with supervised indoor and outdoor activities on the village nursery slopes. And Petit Poucet takes children from age three and will pick them up and take them home at any time during the day.

Beyond skiing, the Alpine village has a pedestrian-only centre with wood and stone-clad chalets. The resort is lively at night, has a good range of restaurants, and a variety of after-ski activities. Classicaval, Val d’Isère’s classical music festival is a highlight of the winter cultural season. Since its creation in 1993, the festival has assembled lovers of classical music in the village’s baroque church, Saint Bernard de Menthon. The festival welcomes renowned musicians and singers with a programme that includes classical pieces composed by Bach, Vivaldi, Debussy, Wagner, Chopin, Liszt, Schubert, ... This year is certain to be extra special as Val d’Isère is celebrating the festival’s 20th birthday. This year the festival will run January 22-24 and March 19-21, 2013.
