French ski resorts : news

Snow, ski, and fun ... yours for the taking in Tignes, France

If Tignes is one of the mythical ski resorts in the French Alps, it’s not for nothing. The high altitude ski resort is located in the upper half of the Espace Killy, one of the world’s largest ski areas which also offers access to Val d’Isère slopes. Tignes has a great mix of terrain, lots to do off the slopes, hundreds of shops and restaurants and one of the longest seasons in France. And this winter with the exceptional snow falls and a 1900 meter vertical, a ski holiday in Tignes will meet the needs of skiers and boarders alike.

Families in particular can enjoy a stress-free ski holiday. One of the advantages of the purpose-built altitude resort is that apartments are at the base of the slopes. The need to walk a long way or catch a ski bus is not an issue. Children can step into skis in supervised classes from as early as age 2½ allowing parents to enjoy the exceptional backcountry skiing or the snowpark and boardercross. And after a day on the slopes, all will enjoy ice skating on the natural rink installed on the Tignes lake - with “Disco on Ice” every Thursday night – or a dip in the swimming pools (counter current pool, bubbling platform, air bubbles seat a geyser or cascading fountain and racer slide).

Coming up: the 2012 Edition of the X-Games hosted in Tignes from March 20 to the 22, 2013. Slopestyle, Superpipe... big names, and all totally free! Let’s meet in Tignes.
